An ELI Public Webinar
Hardrock mining is an important economic activity in the United States, providing valuable non-fuel metals and minerals needed for technology, infrastructure, and industry. However, it can also have significant impacts on the environment and local communities. Thus, effective regulation of hardrock mining activities is paramount to the mitigation of negative externalities. The Environmental Law Institute recently published a research report on Alaska hardrock mining policy, offering recommendations based on a comparison of state laws and regulations.
Join ELI and expert panelists for a webinar focused on the environmental, economic, and social regulation of hardrock mining in various mineral-producing states. We will discuss the different approaches states have taken and opportunities for the improvement of hardrock mining law and policy based on those varied approaches.
Panelists:
Leah Fattor, Public Interest Environmental Law Fellow, Environmental Law Institute, Moderator
Dan Cannon, Senior Public Lands Coordinator, Alaska Conservation Foundation
Megan Condon, Attorney, Native American Rights Fund
Bonnie Gestring, Northwest Program Director, EarthWorks
