An ELI Public Webinar

The United States is witnessing increased consideration of cumulative impacts, particularly when addressing environmental justice issues at the state and local levels. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency defines cumulative impacts as “the totality of exposures to combinations of chemical and nonchemical stressors and their effects on health, well-being, and quality of life outcomes.” Considered in the context of individuals, communities, and populations, cumulative impacts analyses examine factors such as pollution and poor environmental conditions, pre-existing health conditions, social factors, and exposures to stressors throughout an individual’s lifetime. A number of laws related to the consideration of cumulative impacts have been passed recently in states.

Join the Environmental Law Institute and expert panelists to discuss cumulative impacts generally and how they are being considered at the local, state, and federal levels. We will discuss recent developments, as well as opportunities for further cumulative impacts analyses.

Panelists:
Ebony Griffin-Guerrier, Counsel, Singleton Schreiber, Moderator
Ana Baptista, Associate Professor of Environmental Policy and Sustainability Management, The New School
Kristie Ellickson, Senior Scientist, Union of Concerned Scientists
Charles Lee, Former Senior Policy Advisor, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Jasmine Washington, Staff Attorney, Southern Environmental Law Center
